Next week, our Principal and Federal Sector Leader

Next week, our Principal and Federal Sector Leader, Rudy Caron, AIA, will attend the Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo (JETC) in Portland, Oregon. He will also begin his participation in the SAME 2026–2027 Class of the Leader Development Program (LDP), representing the Northeast Region.

Supported by the SAME Foundation, the LDP is a unique, selective professional development initiative that provides AEC professionals with specialized training. This program is designed to prepare the next generation of military, government, and industry leaders to meet the nation’s national security infrastructure challenges, reflecting our commitment to excellence.

Last Friday, our team enjoyed a biking and walking outing from Providence to Bristol— a perfect day for fresh air, movement, and meaningful time connecting outside of the office. As Earth Month comes to a close, we’re proud to share how our workplace supports a more sustainable future.

At Saam Architecture, sustainability extends beyond our design work.

A recent internal study showed that our remote work and flexible hours model helps reduce daily commuting. Combined with our urban location within 2 miles of commuter rail, bus lines, and subway access, transportation is easier and more energy efficient.

Together, these efforts have helped to reduce CO2 emissions by 87% annually, supporting a more sustainable way of working.

This Earth Month, we are spotlighting Crocker Elementary School in Fitchburg, MA. This project features biobased flooring in corridors and classroom/learning spaces, along with low‑emitting materials across paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and flooring. We are excited that this project is tracking LEED Gold, supporting healthier learning environment at Crocker.

Happy Earth Month from Saam! Throughout April, we will be sharing a series about how we as a firm are prioritizing the health of our planet and our communities.

To start this series, we will discuss our Saam Healthy and Sustainable Materials Guide, an evolving document focused on all things materials. We discuss material ingredients - what to look out for and what to avoid - as well as the impact of material selections on the well-being of our communities and the planet.
The lens through which we created this guide utilizes the Common Materials Framework, an industry wide structure for evaluating materials. Human Health, Climate Health, Ecosystem, Health, Social Health & Equity, and Circular Economy.

A range of materials are covered in the guide, with more to be added over time. Saam team members can use this guide to better inform decisions on projects. We are excited to start to use this guide as a way to improve outcomes for clients and communities!
