Saam Architecture is seeking a licensed Senior Project Manager (ref. AIA definition) with 10+ years of experience to lead complex federal and defense work, with a particular emphasis on USACE and National Guard projects. This is a senior, client-facing leadership role responsible for project planning, scope and fee development, staffing, schedule and budget control, consultant coordination, quality management, and successful delivery from contract award through construction closeout. Greater New England-based candidates with government and defense project experience preferred.

Salary Range: $135,000–$160,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, clearances, and alignment with federal/defense delivery requirements
responsibilities
- Serve as the primary client liaison for federal and defense projects, building strong relationships with agency representatives, user groups, consultants, and internal leadership.
- Develop and manage project execution plans, including scope, fee, staffing, schedule, risk, communications, and quality-control strategy.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams through programming, planning, design, documentation, bidding/negotiation, construction administration, and closeout.
- Manage consultant coordination and federal submission packages; lead design reviews, comment-resolution cycles, and milestone deliverables.
- Oversee project financial performance, including fee burn, forecasting, contract compliance, change management, and invoicing coordination.
- Ensure that project delivery aligns with UFCs and other applicable agency criteria, client standards, and internal QA/QC procedures.
- Mentor project architects and less-experienced project managers, helping reinforce consistent delivery standards across teams.
- Travel is needed for client meetings, site visits, charrettes, and construction-phase services.
required qualifications
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen, background screen required.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of project management experience after becoming licensed, with demonstrated success as the manager of completed USACE or National Guard projects.
- Professional licensure: Registered Architect (active U.S. license required).
- Federal/Defense technical leadership: Manage complex multidisciplinary teams (drawings, specs, and consultant coordination) across all phases (programming through CA), and apply DoD design standards, including Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), to produce compliant, buildable, and review-ready documents.
- Remote-first delivery: Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with a high level of organization, accountability, and responsiveness to manage scope, schedule, budget, and client communication.
- Advanced Revit proficiency: Extensive Construction Document experience and consultant model coordination, and a strong understanding and experience with exterior technical detailing.
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and standard Microsoft collaboration tools.
