MIT B36 RLE Office Suite Renovation

Saam renovated an office suite on the 7th floor of MIT Building 36 for MIT’s leading multidisciplinary research organization, the Research Lab for Electronics (RLE), which explores groundbreaking analysis of atomic physics, biomedical science and other complex phenomena.

To accommodate the internal needs of the users and their collaborating partners, the new space includes a mix of individual and group work points and a relocated sound lab. Open workstation areas are positioned intermittently throughout the plan with enclosed spaces acting as acoustical buffers, ensuring the users’ desire for a quieter environment is met.

Private offices with full glass fronts allow natural light to stream into the space from the south facing facade. A central cafe invites collaboration with community tables and a long banquette resting against a wood slat feature wall. The cool tones of acoustical wall panels and accent paints compliment the warm, natural tones of wood finishes, creating a calming environment ideal for work and study.
