Central Connecticut State University Social Sciences Hall

While at Burt Hill, members of the Saam team worked on the new academic building at Central Connecticut State University, which serves as home to the departments of anthropology, history, political science, sociology, and geography. The building provides new green areas, is centrally located between Barnard, Markus White, Sanford, and Davidson Halls and ties together upper and lower quad areas.

The building’s facades respond to adjacent historic structures and are arranged to frame a series of gardens and courtyards that include native plantings, rain gardens, and a storm water detention system feature. The exterior design respects the materials of surrounding campus buildings and complies with CCSU design standards, generally requiring brick veneer, precast highlights, punched window openings, and copper roofing.

The building meets the new Connecticut High Performance Building Standards.
