In the process of expanding its South Portland facilities assets, WEX asked Saam to evaluate numerous sites before choosing 123 Darling for its new Shared Services and Information Technology facility. This 59,000-square-foot building supports WEX’s nearby global headquarters facility, and provides WEX with state-of-the-art technology to better serve its customer base. The original core and shell of the building required selected structural retrofit and a complete MEP upgrade, and a communicating stair was provided at the lobby.
The project’s program included open office space, private offices, conference rooms, collaboration areas, a cafeteria with full servery, fitness space, hoteling zones, and IT service space. With numerous corporate departments occupying this building, the design utilized active circulation zones to create more collaborative community space and amenities. Sustainable strategies and efficient reuse of existing building elements resulted in an award of two Green Globes through the Green Globes sustainability tracking system.
